Assessment and Treatment of Childhood-Onset Conduct Disorder: A Literature Review

Introduction: Conduct disorder (CD) is among the most highly represented diagnostic issues in child psychiatry. Current research suggests that early-onset CD predictive of a worse prognosis and trajectory than other subtypes if not subsequently met with appropriate psychological assessment symptom management. This paper aims to provide an overview literature from 2014 2021 intervention protocols target childhood-onset type specific CD, appraise associated barriers implicated by findings. Methods: review involved thorough search electronic databases extract empirical studies directly related CD. The was performed on PsycINFO PubMed using following words: “conduct disorder(s)” OR “CD” disordered”, AND “child(hood)-onset” “elementary-onset” “early-onset”, “assessment” “evaluation” “examination”, “intervention” “treatment” “symptom management”. Results: Based trends, articles were sorted into three common topics: assessment, treatment, services. demonstrated importance sensitive tools, neural measures, behavioural markers, limited prosocial emotions (LPE) specifier. results indicated comorbidities, tailored school- family-based intervention, parent-child conflict, LPE specifier addition age-of-onset subtype area for clinicians. Discussion: Research has shown compared subtypes, individual risk factors such as neurological cognitive deficits, poor emotion regulation, familial maladaptive parenting styles, evocative family instability. While focused dispositional this heterogenous disorder, it important shift focus evidence-based clinical treatment strategies subtype. Future should examine current sensitivity key stakeholders early identification treatment. Conclusion: Early detection will increase chances positive outcome all parties, which includes reducing emotional strain internalizing thoughts caregivers teachers preventing antisocial personality adulthood. Normative options coincides factors, further have implications identifying providing care at-risk children.
